Letter from The Director • October 9, 2017

Dear Shasta Families,

Thanks so much for a great 1st week of Expeditions! We are excited for students to continue pursuing their passions in classes like Cooking, Psychology, and Video Game Programming.

As a reminder, during Expeditions the Shasta school day will remain on a normal schedule, running from 8:20 AM-3:30 PM. Students will have Personalized Learning Time with their mentor every afternoon from 2:20 PM-3:30 PM. Office hours will also be available to all students on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 PM- 5:00 PM. In addition, students have Power Focus Areas and projects they should be working on for their Expeditions courses. Please check-in with your student this weekend to learn about their progress in these courses.

Support Shasta’s Charter Renewal Petition

On September 25, we submitted our petition to Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) for the renewal of Summit Shasta’s charter.  You can view the charter petition HERE. We are required to go through the charter renewal process every 5 years in order to continue operating Summit Shasta as a free public charter school.  We need strong family support in order to ensure a successful charter renewal.  Read more information on the charter renewal process HERE. Sign up to attend a JUHSD Board Meeting HERE.

First SPOT Meeting on Tuesday at 6 PM

The Shasta Parent Organizing Team (SPOT) is looking for parent volunteers. Any parents that are interested in supporting in the planning of study trips, graduation, prom, school fundraisers, and other special events are invited to join for our meeting. During the meeting, we will break into committees and make a calendar and backwards plan for the year. Please email Wren (wmaletsky@summitps.org) prior to the meeting if you have additional questions!

Shasta Pilots New Expeditions Course

We are excited to offer a new small Expeditions course for seniors this year is called “A Seniors Guide to Life After Shasta!” One component of that course will be that students complete job shadows and interview people in our community about their work and life experiences. If you are interested in hosting a Shasta senior for a job shadow or being interviewed (or if you know someone who would be interested!), please email Katie Goddard (kgoddard@summitps.org)

Hello Students & Parents,

We have officially opened registration for our winter sports season at Shasta.  We will once again offer basketball and soccer for both boys & girls.  We will have a Varsity team for all sports, as well as JV & Freshman teams for boys basketball.

In order to participate in a winter sport, you MUST complete this registration form and submit your medical forms by Friday, October 27th, 2017.  Any student that is not registered using this form, or that has not completed the necessary medical forms, will NOT be allowed to tryout and participate.  If you need a copy of the medical forms, you can get one from the office during regular school hours.  A copy of the forms are also attached.
