Summit Shasta is public and tuition-free. We are open to all; there are no admissions requirements. If there are more students expressing interest in enrolling than the number of available spots, we will use a random selection process to determine who will receive a space.
Welcome to Summit Shasta! We are a free, public charter high school serving students in the Daly City, California area. There are no admission requirements and all students are welcome. We are currently in our sixth year of serving students in the area from grade 9 to 12. Our first class of college-ready students graduated in June of 2017!
Our mission is to prepare a diverse group of students for success in college, and to be thoughtful, contributing members of society. At Summit Shasta we believe that every student is capable of being college and career ready and should have access to high-performing 21st century schools that prepare them for success in college, career and life.
Summit students receive consistent, relevant, and personalized support seamlessly integrated into their school day as they drive towards their academic and personal goals. Every Summit student has a dynamic Personalized Learning Plan and is able to access all of the learning tools and resources they need at any time.
Summit students are self-directed learners. From the day they arrive, Summit students are encouraged and coached to develop the different facets of self-directed learning – Challenge Seeking, Persistence, Strategy-Shifting, Response to Setbacks, and Appropriate Help Seeking.
All Summit graduates meet or exceed four-year college entrance requirements. All Summit students demonstrate competency in college preparatory course work in five core subjects and the visual arts.
Every single student is known by every faculty member, and teachers continuously collaborate to ensure students have the feedback and practice they need to become empowered learners. Every Summit student has at least one adult mentor and coach, who individually supports them to set goals and make a plan to achieve those goals.
WHAT DO PARENTS SAY…
A friend of the family told us about a new Summit Shasta that opened in Daly City. It was the best thing that happened to our daughter. We love this school!! Shasta is a diverse, technologically advanced college prep school. The teachers are all fantastic, young people who can really bond with our kids. They are so full of energy and passion for teaching that it’s amazing. The teachers can connect with our kids in ways that parents can’t. They pass their love of education on to our kids and I personally can’t thank them enough. Nothing like my old high school. My daughter loves all of her teachers, even the ones she hasn’t even had in a class yet.
We love that Summit Shasta is a college prep school. All of the teachers and staff are there to help and encourage all of our kids to get into great colleges throughout the country!! 100% of the Class of 2017 was accepted to colleges. How can you beat that?
Another perk at Summit Shasta is the mentors. Each student meets with their mentor on a one-on-one basis every week to make sure they are on track to understand the assignments and to get the best grades possible. The mentor groups are small groups of about 20 kids that are together for their entire high school experience. So instead of 1 guidance counselor for the entire grade it’s broken up for more one-on-one time which means “no kid left behind”.
Summit Shasta only has about 100 kids per grade making each of the classes relatively small. Small classes = a better learning experience in the classroom. That’s the kind of equation parents like to see!!
