Dear Shasta Families,

Over the past two weeks of Expeditions, students welcomed back many teachers they knew and loved from last year and got to meet a few new ones as well.

On offer at Shasta this year were:

The final products our students made ranged from their own Wilderness Credos to personal web pages, job application aortfolios, portraits, short films, presentations and even a college fair planned by the Junior Class. The number of students doing internships and independent studies has doubled, and Ms. Goddard is running a research pilot entitled Life After Shasta to better understand how seniors can apply their content knowledge, skills, and habits of success to the things they care most about in the world beyond Summit. We are excited to welcome back the entire Expeditions team in January for Round 2!

In addition, on September 25, we submitted our petition to Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) for the renewal of Summit Shasta’s charter! You can view the charter petition HERE. On October 17, the JUHSD Board of Directors will hold a Public Hearing on the Shasta Renewal Petition at their regularly scheduled Board Meeting at 7pm. If you are interested in attending, you can sign up to attend the JUHSD Board Meeting HERE. Big thanks to all those parents who have already RSVP’d and/or signed up to speak at the Board meeting. We appreciate your support!

Donations Needed for PSAT on October 25th

On Wednesday, October 25th, all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT at Summit Shasta. This is a long test and we want to make sure all students have a healthy drinks and snacks available during testing. If you are able to donate snacks on that day, please sign-up here. All donations should be dropped off at school by 5 PM on Tuesday, October 24th.

2 Liter Bottles Needed For AP Environmental Science Project

This year in AP Environmental Science, seniors will build a small ecosystem to analyze the ways that organisms all rely on each other. These ecosystems are built inside of 2-liter clear plastic bottles. We need about 200 by the end of October. We also need 4 bags of potting soil, gravel, and 20 gallons of distilled water. The week that we build the ecocolumns, we will need live aquatic plants. Shasta Faculty and Students Participate in Education Philanthropy

This Wednesday, Shasta faculty and students joined philanthropists in Palo Alto to talk about the Summit Learning model! We were excited to be a part of a forum highlighting Summit as a pioneer in education! Thanks to Bradley Davey, Jerrimay De Leon, Isaac Gebreysus, Josephine Lee, Nicolas Radoc, Jonathan Smaw, Helen So, Chelsea Watts, and Synclair Young for joining for the presentation!


Summit Shasta is Accepting Applications for the 2018-2019 School Year

Summit Shasta is now accepting applications for next school year! We invite all interested families to attend one of our upcoming open houses to learn more about our school. School administrators and ambassadors will be on-hand to answer questions about Summit Shasta.


First SPOT Meeting Details

The Shasta Parent Organizing Team (SPOT) held our first meeting last Tuesday. Thank you so much to all of the parents that came out! To view the presentation from the meeting, please click here. Hello Students & Parents,

We have officially opened registration for our winter sports season at Shasta. We will once again offer basketball and soccer for both boys & girls. We will have a Varsity team for all sports, as well as JV & Freshman teams for boys basketball.

In order to participate in a winter sport, you MUST complete this registration form and submit your medical forms by Friday, October 27th, 2017. Any student that is not registered using this form, or that has not completed the necessary medical forms, will NOT be allowed to tryout and participate. If you need a copy of the medical forms, you can get one from the office during regular school hours. A copy of the forms are also attached.

All winter sports are open for tryouts & practices on Monday, October 30, per CCS rules. All of our Varsity teams are part of the PSAL, and will play a full schedule of league and non-league games. JV & Freshman boys basketball will play a smaller scheduled based on available teams. Schedules will be posted on MaxPreps by November 1.

Class of 2018: Shasta’s FAFSA/ Cash for College Night is October 26th

On Thursday, October 26th from 6-8pm, all senior families are strongly encouraged to attend the Shasta Cash For College NIght. Support from experts on the FAFSA & CA Dream Act Application will be available that evening.

The FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application need to be completed by every Summit senior in order for colleges to determine your Expected Family Contribution and determine any need-based scholarships, grants or loans that they will offer you.

What to Bring to Cash for College Night:

  • If you don’t have every one of these documents, that’s okay. Come with the documents that you have and that apply to you.
  • Driver’s license, if you have one
  • Social Security card or number, if you have one
  • Alien registration number, if you have one
  • Most recent tax returns with 2016 income information (both for student and parent)
  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) (both for student and parent)
  • Recent bank statements
  • Any records of untaxed income such as welfare benefits, Social Security benefits, or child support
  • List of colleges student is interested in attending
  • Your chromebook or laptop

Class of 2018: College Application Night on Wednesday, November 15th

On Wednesday, November 15th, Summit Shasta is excited to host our second annual college application night! All members of the Class of 2018 will stay after school with the entire Summit Shasta faculty to draft personal statements, finalize applications, and hit submit on their college applications!
