Letter from the Shasta Leadership Team
Dear Black Bear Families,
We look forward to welcoming the Expeditions team back to campus tomorrow! This is our 3rd round of Expeditions and we are excited for students to continue pursuing their passions through on-site courses, internships, and independent study opportunities. If you have questions about Expeditions, please reach out to the Deans of Expeditions, Kalyn Olson (email@example.com) and Monica Hanson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Teachers will continue to hold office hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons of Expeditions. Office hours run until 5 PM each day. These two weeks offer a unique opportunity for students to catch up and get ahead in all core classes.

Shasta Parent Corner
WASC Visit February 11- February 13
Next month, Summit Shasta will be welcoming four committee members from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Shasta is up for WASC accreditation and will be evaluated by these team members to ensure we are operating a strong and sound academic program. As part of this visit, we need parent support at two events:
- – Sunday, February 10th from 4 PM to 5 PM at Summit Shasta: A welcome reception for the committee parents. We would love for 5-10 parents to come and mix and mingle with the WASC team. Please sign up here!
- – Tuesday, February 12th from 4 PM to 5 PM at Summit Shasta: We are looking for 10-15 parents to be part of a question and answer session with the WASC team. Please sign up here!
Summit Shasta Family Day on Saturday, February 9th
SPOT is hosting Shasta’s first annual Family Day on Saturday, February 9th at 1:00pm. The day will include a chicken wing and cupcake cook off, and bingo. The intent of this event is to bring our community together for some fun, and to fundraise for each grade’s study trip costs. More details are available here.
We are requesting, from each grade level, one submission of 200 homemade chicken wings and one submission of 4 dozen homemade regular sized cupcakes. Please bring the ready to eat submissions to Shasta by 12:30pm the day of. The tasting/voting will start at 1:00pm. There is no cost to submit, taste, or vote.
Presale tickets can be purchased at the link below for $15. Tickets sold at the door will be $20 cash only. We are requesting prize donations from each grade level. We are planning on 9 games, but we may have multiple winners. We will be putting together a grand prize for the final game. If you have any resources for big prizes, please let us know asap so we can request them.

11th Grade Update:
1. THE STUDY TRIP IS IN JEOPARDY! Drivers Needed for 11th Grade College Trip on April 3-5, 2019!
After a preliminary count of drivers and how many students each driver can take, WE NEED 12-15 MORE DRIVERS THAT CAN DRIVE BOTH WAYS! Let’s not disappoint our kids! Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you can drive.
We realize families may have a vacation in Southern California following the study trip.
Please let us know if you will be driving your junior to the study trip and staying there after.
If you are vacationing down south, does your junior still need a ride for study trip? (i.e., junior drives down with school for study trip and you meet them in Southern California)
2. BJ’s Fundraiser: January 31st 10am-10pm (Tanforan Mall:1140 El Camino Real Suite 271)
A portion of the proceeds will go to 11th Grade. See attached flyer. Can be paper or electronic flyer. Call and make reservations!
3. John and Jill’s Cheesecake Fundraiser:
(Our very own Spencer Harris and family make these wonderful cheesecakes!) Now, you can buy a 9″ x 1 1/2″ size cheesecake for $15.00 with a choice of six different flavors. See attached form below.

Red Cross Club Blood Drive
Thanks so much to the Red Cross club who hosted a blood drive on Friday! We are incredibly proud of their leadership in hosting this special event!
Follow-Up: Testing and Financial Aid Night
Last week, we were so excited to have many 9th, 10th, and 11th grade families join us for Testing and Financial Aid College Info Night. Abdul Duso, Director of College Readiness at Summit Public Schools, and Mary Morrison, former Financial Aid Counselor at Stanford University, shared a lot of helpful information about getting accepted to and paying for college.
Class of 2019 College Update
At this point in the year, 100% of the Class of 2019 has applied to college. In addition, 48% of the senior class has been accepted to the following colleges and universities:

Shasta Athletics and Clubs
Registration for Spring Sports!
Spring sports registration is now open! All students that want to participate in a spring sport MUST complete the registration form and have a completed a sports physical with your doctor (if you already have a physical on file for this year, you do not ned another one).
This spring we are looking to add Track & Field and Boys Volleyball. We have added these options to the registration form as we need to gain an understanding of how many students are interested in either sport. We must reach certain registration goals in order to move forward with a team for both sports.
We will send more information ONLY to those students that have registered to play a sport. If you are not registered and do not have a completed medical form on file, you will NOT be able to participate.
Please register for spring sports here! You can get a sports packet (including the medical form) from the front office. Registration will close on Friday,January 26. Medical forms MUST be received by Monday, January 29. If you do not complete both items, you will NOT be able to participate (NO EXCEPTIONS).
